Yesterday was the session’s first Adventure Day. If your daughter is new to Kamaji, you probably don’t know what that is. Most days, the campers attend four different instructional activity periods — two in the morning and two in the afternoon — and have a free period at the end of the afternoon. [...]

I woke abruptly, with a catch in my throat as I realized the immediacy of the day, both for myself and for her.
I have missed her. I am aching to put my arms around her after a month’s absence. I am [...]

The campers and counselors enjoyed an absolutely spectacular camp day. Bright sunshine, crystal clear skies, light breezes and temps in the upper 70’s. Kamaji looked like a movie set today. Cabin 4 Porch 2, Cabin on the Hill, Nutshell Porch 3 and Cabin 1 Porch 2 all left on their respective canoe trips. For those [...]

Way back in 1986 a genius movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off starring Matthew Broderick was released.   Many of you might fondly remember this movie, but just in case . . .
. . . Ferris fakes sick in order to skip out of school for a day.  But he doesn’t fake sick just to stay [...]

When I first met Mike, he always talked of owning his own camp.  And when we got married, we began the search for our camp.  Upon taking ownership of Kamaji, we faced several years of fumbling our way through updating the facility, revamping the program, re-establishing the spirit and atmosphere that is uniquely Kamaji, and [...]

Recently someone not connected with camp asked me “Why did you choose a girls’ camp to own?”  Truth is, Mike and I did not intentionally choose a girls’ camp over a boys’ camp.  When we started out in 1978 to look for a summer camp to own and direct, we had no preference other than [...]
