Art Village
Camp Kamaji’s Art Village is home to several of camp’s creative programs. Following is a description of each:
Arts and Crafts
Crafts provides a break from the adventuresome, physical activities offered at Kamaji and allows campers to explore their innovative and imaginative side. Some of our more popular A&C projects include embroidery, book binding, wind chimes, Native American “dream catchers”, block printing, puppetry, basket making, weaving, bead work, paper-maché, fimo jewelry, stained glass windows — are but a few of the many projects you can sign up to do.
Ceramics/Pottery
As the most popular Art Village activity, ceramics is where creativity and whimsy emerge from clay. From hand shaping pinch and coil pots to making custom tiles, jewelry boxes, birdhouses and garden gnomes . . . and lots more, you can advance to the potter’s wheel where you can design and create elaborate three-dimensional glazed and kiln-fired art.
Painting and Drawing
Are you more of a Monet, Renoir, Rembrandt, Picasso OR are you destined to make a name for yourself as a famous 21st century artiste?? At Kamaji’s Art Village, you can learn the basic skills of still life painting, sketching, abstract expression . . . using watercolors, oils, acrylics, pencils, charcoal, pastels and inks. And should your artistic expression lean more to whimsy, your fun side can be expressed through calligraphy, batiking, silk-screen painting, fabric painting, caricatures and cartooning in our P&D program.
