Dining Hall

At mealtimes, campers sit with their cabin groups and counselors — much like you would do with your family — around a large dining table.  We eat “family style” with platters and bowls of food on the table rather than lining up cafeteria-style.  Twice a week we have outdoor barbecues — Kamaji’s rainbow burgers and blueberry muffins are infamous!!

Before we forget, we should mention that Kamaji’s food is GREAT!!  So GREAT that many of our campers, their parents and Kamaji staff ask for our  recipes!  So GREAT that our camp cook, who’s been at Kamaji since 1981(!!), is thinking of publishing a Kamaji Cookbook   So GREAT that our own two (now grown) kids would beg us to bring the Kamaji cook home with us when summer was over.

One last thing worth mentioning about Kamaji’s Dining Hall experience:  While we begin mealtimes with grace, we end with song — quieter melodious songs after dinner and loud foot-stomping ones after breakfast and lunch.  “Loud songs” is definitely a tradition that needs to be experienced in person to be fully appreciated.  Kamaji-campers-in-song literally shake the rafters in synch with the sound and spirit of Kamaji!
