Swimming

Until a camper reaches an advanced proficiency, Swimming is a required instructional activity at Kamaji.  Since swimming is basic to safety and a requirement for participation in Kamaji’s waterfront activities, we want all campers to swim, at the very least, at an intermediate level.   Therefore, all Kamaji campers (and staff) begin their summer at camp by participating in a “swim check.”  Each person must be able to swim 200 yards while swimming nonstop for eight minutes.  She then must tread water for three minutes and float on her back for one.

No worries if you are unable to do pass the “swim check”: Kamaji’s American Red Cross certified and experienced instructors will be there to teach you.

Daily instructional swim classes, with an emphasis on form and endurance as well as personal safety, are required for those campers unable to pass Kamaji’s “swim check.”   Additionally any camper who wishes to participate in  water-skiing and windsurfing, must take and pass the American Red Cross Swimming Level VI requirements while at Kamaji.

We also offer  synchronized water ballet, water aerobics, competitive training,  water games and snorkeling as part of Kamaji’s swim instruction program.
