Hi!
We are Mike and Kathy Jay and, together, we own and direct Camp Kamaji for Girls. Having a summer camp for children is the culmination of Mike’s childhood dream. He was a camper, counselor and supervisory administrator for close to 20 years at his boyhood camp. Mike also worked as a high school teacher and college administrator and earned a Master’s Degree in Camp Administration ~ all before arriving at Kamaji. Kathy used her Master’s of Social Work Degree in her work as an elementary school social worker before becoming a camp professional. Working in education not only meant that we could work with kids during the school year but also gave us summers off to return to camp each year. The combination of “kids plus camp” was one we couldn’t resist. . .and so we purchased our own camp for kids in 1980. Since then we have committed all of our professional energies to Camp Kamaji. Our other rewarding “career” pursuit is that of parents to sons Nathan and Aaron.
Working alongside us is Kat Martin who, at age 12, came to Kamaji as a first year camper. “Climbing the ranks” Kat went on to become a cabin counselor and water-ski instructor during college and, upon graduation in 2004 from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, Kat became Kamaji’s year-round Assistant Director.
But enough about us…and onto Camp Kamaji! Please take time to “tour” Camp Kamaji via our website — we are certain that it will give you a feel for who we are and an understanding of the spirit that makes Kamaji special for everyone in our camping community.
Campingly yours,
