What
do we look for in an applicant?
There are no specific traits that guarantee
your success as a camp staff member. Our staff members serve as
role models for campers so they must always consider how their actions
influence campers. We hire women and men who enjoy being with children,
who are patient, sensitive and understanding, who are interested
in leadership training and group dynamics, who enjoy the outdoors
and who will lead campers by their example.
Want an example? Here's the difference between
an "okay" counselor and a great one.
While a group of campers and their counselors
are heading back to their cabin after a heavy rain, they come across
a large mud puddle. The campers, of course, want to play in the
puddle. A "not-so-good" counselor tells them they can't because
they'll get dirty. An "all-right" counselor, after making sure the
puddle is safe, says "All right!" and watches the campers play.
A great counselor, after checking the puddle, says, "Follow me!"
and is the first one to jump in the mud.
Simply put, we want our
counselors to be "child-like" without being childish.

What's
in it for you?
People work at our camp for a variety of
reasons. Here are just a few:
- Working with children makes you feel good
about yourself.
- Camp is a great place to find out if you
would enjoy a career in a human service profession, such as
teaching, social work or medicine.
- Camp provides a setting to develop
skills, including leadership, teamwork, communication, motivation
and organization - skills that can be used for the rest of your
life regardless of your career.
- Counselors form deep and long-lasting
friendships with other staff members and campers.
- Working outdoors, in a beautiful setting,
is a great change from school or work in the city.
- Camp is FUN!
The reasons you work with us will, of course,
be your own. We would be happy to discuss your goals and desires
for the summer.
