Kamaji Office Manager: Bri Humphries

Bri Humphries works as Kamaji’s year-round Office Manager. She grew up in Indiana and graduated from Franklin College. While at Franklin College she majored in Political Science.

In 2014, Bri was debating between doing another internship or finding a summer job. Luckily, she discovered a flyer for Camp Kamaji and chose to take a summer job as an office assistant. Bri worked seasonally for two summers before we asked her to join us working year ‘round. Bri works remotely from her home in Franklin, Indiana and joins us in the Northwoods each summer.

In her own words, “I took the position because it seemed like the perfect fit. This job challenges me and allows me to grow as a person. I truly love Camp Kamaji, our campers, and our staff and I believe in what we’re doing. When not sending emails and researching, I enjoy spending time with family, getting coffee with friends, and watching Disney movies”.

Camp Caretaker: Randy Nyberg

Randy started working at Camp Kamaji in 2007 as camp’s caretaker. Randy works year ’round taking care of our beautiful camp. He spends a lot of the off-season making improvements at camp like renovating the washhouses, building the treehouse, siding buildings and building new decks and porches. His trusty sidekicks, dogs Patch and Oreo are always by his side.

During the season, Randy is at camp and helps to keep camp running smoothly by fixing holes in screens, dealing with any plumbing issues, driving campers to their canoe put-in spots and tinkering with our camp boats and vehicles.

When he’s not hard at work at camp, Randy loves to coach and watch baseball (he’s a Twins fan!), spend time with his wife, Barb, who works locally as a nurse, and with his kids, Chris, Nick, Georgia and Josh.

Why you chose Camp Kamaji: I chose Camp Kamaji because I strongly believe that girls should be encouraged to be brave, courageous and continually learn new skills. I value the mind set of Camp Kamaji in that there is the encouragement and expectation of positive interactions combined with respect for others and most importantly working together to create a community where consideration, responsibility, kindness and play are at the forefront.
The history and traditions of the camp are excellent as well as its ownership from a past camper and by people who are passionate about this camp is very important to me. This has solidified the ideas that different people with different beliefs, hopes and dreams, can learn to respect and celebrate these differences. Also, I love that this camp embraces the outdoors and the range of activities that the girls can partake in every summer is exemplary. Finally, the main reason why I chose Camp Kamaji is that the camp is for every type of girl and this camp encourages being true to yourself and celebrating individuality.
